The advances of Internet resources, the new virtual worlds, the new way to organise and view the information and other new technological challenges will be discussed on the Melting Pot thematic area. In this area Alfred Astort will share his experiences in Microsoft and the project he is carrying out.
Alfred Astort is the responsible of the “User experience Design” of the Live Lab, the new project of Microsoft focused on the research and development of applications for Internet and incubation of new technologies.
Astort studied graphic design in Barcelona and after working for different companies founded his own studio in Barcelona and Seattle where he was the Creative Director. Soon thereafter received an offer of Microsoft and began to work at Live Labs, the elite research into technologies for Internet. Nowadays Alfred is working on his last project Photosynth in collaboration between Microsoft and the University of Washington, what is a new way to view and organize images on a computer. Their software takes a large collection of photos of a place or an object, analyzes them for similarities, and then displays the photos in a reconstructed three-dimensional space, showing you how each one relates to the next. With the Photosynth technology you can access gigabytes of photos in seconds, view a scene from nearly any angle, find similar photos with a single click, and zoom in to make the smallest detail as big as your monitor, a technology that allows a radically improvement on the way in which images are presented on the screen.
