It is not possible to speak of the world without considering the social innovation. The world’s inequity is a critical problem that needs to be resolved. Nowadays new kinds of NGOss are growing with the aim of finding a solution not only for crisis but also to create the best conditions to improve or develop the depressed areas of the world.
MarÃa Zapata is Director of International operations of Ashoka and she is the head of the organization in Spain. Ashoka is the global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs, men and women with system changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems. They have created a global community, in which they develop models for collaboration and design infrastructure needed to advance the field of social entrepreneurship and the citizen sector
Before joining Ashoka in 2002, MarÃa Zapata was working for General Electric in different countries: Mexico, USA, England, Holland and Spain. During her stay in Mexico, Maria worked with Ashoka pushing the E2 Program to promote partnerships between Social Entrepreneurs and Business Entrepreneurs. She was member of the GE Elfun Council (Voluntary associations of General Electric), GE Fund Mexico and Regional Director for Latin America GE Women’s Network.
